Pre-Service Teacher Education (PSTE)

The programme aims to prepare prospective teachers to undertake teaching responsibilities. In this faculty, there is an attempt to combine theory and practice in such a way that theory will be based on the accumulated results of practice, while at the same time practice possesses organizational and systematic characteristics deriving from generalization and principles. One of the programme's purposes is to enrich each Pre-Service Teacher’s potential with all necessary skills, experiences and abilities that will make her capable of interpreting pedagogical theories and transforming the content of various cognitive subjects, so as to be able to play a successful role both in class and in the broader school environment.

The theoretical and practical aspects of the programme contribute to the development of the abilities of the Pre-Service teachers in the following way:

  • To serve as the nodal branch for the following:

    • Organizing pre-service course for elementary school teachers and to provide academic inputs into such course is the subjects represented in the Branch.

    • Propagation of learner centered education and education for personality development through training, extension, preparation of suitable teaching –learning material, action researches etc.

    • All general matters concerning teaching methodology and specific matters concerning teaching methodology of the school NFE subjects represented in the Branch.

    • Provision of Psychological Counseling and guidance services to schools and NFE/AE centers of the district.

  • To provide inputs into programmes/activities of all other branches of the Institute, to the extent of subjects/areas represented/handled in the Branch.

  • Maintenance of science Lab, Psychology equipment, Resource Room for Education of Disabled children, Rooms for Art education, and equipments and facilities for sports and Physical Education.


             The programme takes into account the uniqueness of various subjects and encourages and helps the PSTs to develop mechanisms for composing and reforming specialized solutions for the teaching-learning issues in every cognitive subject. It is expected, after the completion of this programme, that teachers will develop a contemporary pedagogical philosophy that will help them carry out their job efficiently.
